Battle.net Balance is now live! As we announced previously, Battle.net Balance is a new feature that gives players an alternate way to purchase Blizzard digital products and services directly through their Battle.net accounts. Players are now able add to their Battle.net Balance using a variety of payment methods, and then use that balance toward Blizzard Entertainment products and services such as World of Warcraft game time; paid services, such as realm transfers and character name changes; digital versions of select Blizzard games, including Diablo II and StarCraft II; and in-game pets and mounts. In the near future, players will be also able to use Battle.net Balance for the digital World of Warcraft Battle Chest and WoW digital upgrades. In addition, with the upcoming launch of Diablo III, players will have the option to use Battle.net Balance to buy and sell items in the game's currency-based auction house.
For more information, check out the Balance FAQ, or head to the page in Account Management to manage your balance.
You account now has a "balance" that can be topped up using debit or credit cards or a variety of region-specific payment methods.
The new balance tool is currently only able to be used to purchase digital copy's of games such as World of Warcraft digital game time codes, paid services, digital versions of select Blizzard Entertainment games including Diablo II and StarCraft II, and in-game pets and mounts. Once Diablo 3 is released this balance can be used to purchase items from the in-game Real Money auction house and selling items in game on the Auction house can be used to top up your Battle.net balance.
This Balance cannot be converted into cash so once you have deposited money into your balance it has to be used to buy Blizzard products.
Blizzard have said that they will implement two methods when selling items on the Real money auction house: You can use fund from from battle.net balance or you can sue another method which the proceeds can be converted into cash through paypal for "an additional fee"
"In certain regions, Diablo III players may choose to receive cash, rather than add to their Battle.net Balance, from the sale of an item from the currency-based auction house. Those players will be able to do so via PayPal for an additional fee. Players will need to determine which method they wish to use at the time they post their auction." - Diablo 3 FAQ
