5 Successful Ways Of Getting Your Music Heard!
I got this tweet the other day talking to an artist on Twitter. Mind you I'm networking with someone who might buy beats from me and who I can continue to make music with. All the sudden this gets sent to both of us - completely driving a wedge between our conversation. This has happened to me time and time again and I finally decided to tweet back. All the response said was "Sorry just promo".
That got me thinking and I decided to write something on the topic of helping artists of any kind get their music out there to the public in a respectful and more productive matter.
1. Networking
This is by far one of the most important things you need to do online or offline to get your music heard. Nobody wants someone spamming them. You have to remember music is personal. So that's how you have to operate your business. At a personal level. Treat people like people and respect - Not a sale!
2. Quality Music
If you have quality music people are going to check it out and tell their friends. Don't take that as a substitute for not doing any marketing and promotion. It just simply means if people really think your music is hot they are going to let other people hear you.
3. Use Social Media
You need to reach out to a wide audience and one of the best ways to do that is on Social Media. Get yourself a Facebook Fan Page, Twitter, YouTube, ReverbNation, etc. You want to be anywhere and everywhere at once.
4. Get your own domain name!
This helps tremendously - no one is going to take you seriously if you don't have a home site. I suggest a WordPress site because that's what I use. Once its all set up its easy to add content and update it as often as you'd like. Remember people want to be able to go to your site and know your legit about what you do. Most people who spam me don't even do this!
5. Collaborate with someone
If you are just starting out and don't know where to begin this is great for you. Go out there and use your networking skills and try to collaborate on a song with someone who is a little more established than you are. Do not go out asking or suggesting you want something from them. Ask what can you do for them instead. You are providing your services of musical ability to help other people. Never forget that.
Final Words..
Those are just 5 quick tips on ways to promote yourself in a professional way and to get you away from the horrible iniquities of spamming. There is a lot more to this and you should do your own research on Marketing and Promotion. Do not be afraid to pick up a book or ask a few questions.
