Diablo 3 Auction House
For those of you who have not heard about it, Blizzard are implementing an AH in Diablo 3 that can either use In-game gold or real world money.
What's the difference between the gold-based AH and the currency-based AH?
"The gold-based auction house uses in-game gold for purchases and sales. With the currency-based auction house, players will be able to conduct these transactions using actual currency from an authorized payment method or from funds that have been added to their Battle.net account. Players can choose to participate in whichever version of the auction house they prefer, on a per-transaction basis." you can find the original post on the blizzard website.
The Auction House will charge the player a flat posting fee that will be charged no matter if the item sells or does not sell, also a flat fee will be charged to the player when the item is sold. The fee does not change with the item being posted Eg. A rare item will cost the same to post as a common item. The Flat fee will of course be in the same currency of the auction house you are using (in-game gold AH charge in-game gold fee and Real life money AH charges real life currency as a fee). Gold can also be bought and traded for real life currency in the auction house.
Blizzard have said that each account will get a certain amount of fee free postings where you only pay the flat fee if you item sells but not to post it, they have not given any other details about this apart from "We'll have further details on this as well at a later date"
The whole concept of the Real life currency auction house seems a little stupid to me, it takes the fun/excitement out of trying and waiting to get a certain item from a boss when you can just spend some real life money and buy it instantly. It seems to me that blizzard are taking the easy option in the fight against gold farmers by giving them a safe and legal way to conduct business.
Although this does raise ideas about how much money a "normal" player could make by using the Real life currency AH. Me personally i am going to try and "exploit" the AH and see what kind of real world money i can make! cheers
