So, most of you are probably aware of the recent changes that Spotify has made in regards to opening up its platform for developers to build apps upon. In March, the social music service will be opening up an app store to help app developers get paid for their hard work. Last week, I read a really interesting article on the Guardian titled "Spotify: We have to turn ourselves into the OS of Music."

As a heavy user of the free version of Spotify, I really love what they are doing for social music but there are few major problems that I feel will prevent it from becoming the OS of music.

The first, being its relationship with Facebook which forces users to have to login via a Facebook account. Even though just about everybody that's breathing uses Facebook, people are still a little apprehensive about sharing their listening habits and having to login in to one system to use another system. And, while some may argue you can easily switch to private listening mode, it still will continue turn a lot of people away. With VEVO's new deal with Facebook, it requires the same process and this is the reason why I won't be using VEVO as much as I have in the past.

This year music industry veteran Ronnie Matthews and the Starfleet Music Pool are celebrating 22 years in the music business. Most people under the age of 30, have no idea what a record pool is or the importance they played in breaking new music while playing the liaison between DJs and record labels.

Starfleet is one of the few record pools that is still standing from the "golden area," and it continues to thrive because of its willingness to embrace change. With over 19,000 registered DJs in it's database, Starfleet is consistently recognized as a global leader in music promotions. Early last week, I had the pleasure of speaking with Ronnie about the history of Starfleet and why record pools are still important.

How was Starfleet started?

First understand this one thing. As far as annual income goes, within the old paradigm musicians reach their full paying potential between five and eight years into their career. This is an average of all professional musicians at any given time. The maximum average of that income is less than eighty thousand dollars a year. Most never achieve that amount. However when you average in the player that is going full time, such as an orchestra musician, with all of the club musicians you reach a number close to that. You need to understand that the old paradigm is what we are trying to change.

The old paradigm said this: I will work in as many clubs as I can and barely make a living and hope that someone will discover me and I will make it as a performing artist. The clubs have not changed. I have been in this business for close to forty years and I can tell you that the amount of money you can make playing in clubs today is not much different from thirty years ago. As a matter of fact, it is almost identical. Why do you think this is? To go there you have to understand the club and why you should not be treating it as your bread and butter.

You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth'

From the song 'Tonight, Tonight' by The Smashing Pumpkins

I thought it best to begin this review of the film 'Hugo' with a quote from this song by the Smashing Pumpkins. Not that this song or this quote describes the film in any way. But that the MTV for this song, shares something in common with Scorsese's 'Hugo': both paid tribute to film maker Georges Melie.

I do not know who Melie was, or what his role was in the film industry. But while watching 'Hugo,' especially when I saw the footage of the smiling sun and the rocket ship, I was immediately reminded of the Smashing Pumpkins' 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness' album cover, and the 'Tonight Tonight' music video. I revisited the Smashing Pumpkins video after watching the film, and realized, that yes, it seems the Pumpkins were also giving a nod to Melie's art when they did their music video. I would say it would have been perfect to use even one song from this great album in the film, but that's asking too much.

The first time I set out to make a documentary, I wasn't sure what my subject would be. As a student in film school, there were many styles of documentary film to choose from, and the possibilities were endless.

As a big fan of documentaries, I wanted to create something that was more than just the nightly news. I believed greatly in Jean-Luc Godard's comment that "Photography is truth. The cinema is truth twenty-four times per second." And though Godard was a narrative filmmaker, his films have always had a documentary edge—they're more like political narratives that focus on an idea or a topic, which even scripted expose the truth. Godard is also one of the most taught filmmakers at film schools, precisely because he was so revolutionary in his filmmaking.

Cosplay is the abbreviation of Costume Play, it also called コスプレ in Japanese, it means use the costumes, accessories, prop and makeup to act the anime works. Around 1000 BC there had existed the priests' attires, and then the greatness bard who actives in two Greece epics Iliad and Odyssey of 8th Century BC were acted others. There are many recording studios in London which provides best facility. The main emphasis in recording studio is on sound acoustics and room treatments. With the help of computers and other advance technology, whole process of recording can be done in home studios but with real orchestral people recording studio is necessary. Along with good acoustics, there is also the issue of aesthetics. A recording studio has all facilities for sound recording and mixing. Studio control room must be with mixing console, monitors, speakers and MIDI workstations. Optimum acoustic isolation means absorption of reflected sound totally. A studio or live room where instrumentalists and vocalists perform and a control room where professional audio equipment for either analogue or digital recording, routing and manipulating the sound. There may be smaller rooms called "isolation booths" present to accommodate loud instruments such as drums or electric guitar, to keep these sounds from being audible to the microphones that are capturing the sounds from other instruments, or to provide "drier" rooms for recording vocals or quieter acoustic instruments.

Cinema has a long tradition of "Who's the crazy person here?" films: The Lady Vanishes, Mirage, Bunny Lake Is Missing, and more recently, Flightplan and Unknown. In all these films, a frustrated protagonist carrying around a subjective truth tries to convince friends, family members, and dubious authorities of that truth, in spite of extensive contradictory witnesses and evidence. At times, all of those protagonists doubt their own sanity; in the best of these films, viewers are encouraged to follow suit, wondering if it's all in the protagonists' heads. The latest addition to the tradition, Gone, doesn't go that far, and it's never fully convincing in the way it lays out a bread-crumb trail for its suffering protagonist to follow to the truth. But it does find a little new life in a familiar formula.Watch Gone Movie Online
